The
Forest Street Primary School JSC consists of a small group of motivated and
responsible students who meet regularly to discuss new ideas, concerns,
fundraising and ways to improve our school. It provides an opportunity for
‘student voice’ to heard, encouraged and respected. Also, there are many
opportunities for students to work together on team projects.
At
the beginning of each year, interested students in Prep-6 nominate themselves
for the JSC. Some are required to prepare a speech or write a letter,
explaining why they should be selected. One student from each class is then elected
as a JSC representative. Our Grade 6
School Captains also form part of the JSC.
Members
of the JSC wear a badge so they can be easily identified and informs other
students of the important role they hold in our school.
The
JSC work together to organise special events, such as fundraisers. They
advertise and report on these events in our school’s newsletter and at assemblies, informing the whole school
community.
The
JSC also look at ways to improve our school’s facilities in order to benefit
all students. They visit classrooms to collect new ideas and survey students.
In 2014, the JSC supported and fundraised for these special causes:
Livvi’s Place Ballarat (inclusive play space at Victoria Park) and Ballarat
Springfest (lantern making).
We
have also started to redesign our toilets to make them more colourful and to
encourage students to take pride in them.
